I am an avid reader and lover of books and I truly believe that the love for reading is the most beautiful thing we can pass on to our next generation. Books allow us to travel to farthest of lands, go on unseen adventuress, traverse the world, all the while sitting in a cozy nook. I strongly feel that readers are well rounded individuals more aware of the world around them and thus I wanted to pass on this gift to my precious daughter too. Once she turned one and a half I started searching for interesting books which would hold her interest and below are some of the gems I found.
1. The Very Hungry Caterpillar:
This book tells the story of a young caterpillar that is so hungry that he keeps on eating and then slowly transforms into a beautiful butterfly. It’s simple yet memorable story and beautiful animation catches and holds the attention of young readers. Your toddler would enjoy poking fingers in the holes left by the caterpillar as he munches his way through numerous snacks.
2. Goodnight Moon:
This poetic tale unfolds as a little rabbit prepared for bed. He says goodnight to all the things in his room and seen outside his window. The lovely bedtime story with beautiful illustrations is sure to be loved by kids.
3. Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed:
This book elaborates on the famous kid’s song of monkeys jumping and falling off the bed. This picture book follows the monkeys as they prepare for bed, bathe, put on their night suits, brush their teeth and then jump and fall off the bed. The repetition and the fact that it tells one of the much loved songs as a story is sure to keep your little one’s attention riveted.
4. Guess How Much I Love You:
A baby rabbit and his dad try and express their love for each other in this book; each one professing more love in a sweet manner. The lovely watercolor illustrations add to the beauty of this much loved book.
5. Dear Zoo:
A classic book loved by generations of kids, this lift the flap book is the story of a child who wants to adopt a pet from the zoo. The zoo sends a series of animals and the kids can lift flaps to find out which animals the zoo sends and find out if they can be adopted or are too heavy, or too scary. The book ends with the arrival of the perfect pet.
6. Are You My Mother?:
This classic book is the story of a baby bird’s quest to find his mother after he gets lost. He asks various animals he meets whether they are his mother and in the end gets united with his mother. This one is a lovely way to teach about animals and their babies.
These books will definitely be loved by both you and your toddler and make story time a lot of fun.
